Echoes of rustling waves caressing the shore, cloudless cerulean blue sky, and sparkling sunbeams reflecting on water, all while eating your morning dose of pancakes and fruits and enjoying the light lullaby of the ocean— sounds interesting to you? If it does, breakfast on cruise is one thing you shouldn’t miss in your lifetime!
Last September, my SO and I marked our first year together. And what’s a better way to celebrate it than going on a Bahamas cruise! With endless entertainment and activities all lined up for us, we definitely had a good time. But if there’s one thing that remained my favorite- it’s having breakfast while overlooking the seemingly infinite shades of blue. From the farthest sky down to the deepest part of the ocean, there’s something about this view that just quiets my inner self.
Our favorite spot in Carnival Victory was the Lido Restaurant. They open around lunch time, and since we woke up late most of the time, this has been our breakfast spot. They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and the food options are unbelievable. Some features that I loved were Mongolian Wok (I’m Asian hello) Salad Bar, Chef’s Choice, and Pizza Pirate that’s open 24 hours! I remember Luis trying to stop me from getting pizza at 3am. He didn’t win though, my cravings did. There were Carnival Deli and stations for unlimited soft frozen yogurt that we weren’t able to try because in as much as we wanted to eat everything, our tummy couldn’t anymore handle all the food, but they look appetizing, too.
Those times that we actually got up for breakfast time, we had memorable munch at Seaday Brunch and Breakfast Grill. Made-to-order omelettes, fluffy pancakes, and sizzling bacon were of course part of those glorious mornings. Don’t try to miss their hotdogs! I was just shy to ask about the brand that they use, but it’s so juicy and full of flavor! Next time, I promise to ask. I’m just not sure if they’re gonna reveal that secret to me.
On top of that, all these buffets were included in our cruise package! What more can we ask for, right? Devour all the way! Who said something about diet, and figures, and waistlines? After all, those are just numbers! Kidding aside, if you’re on a diet, they have options for you, too. Veggies and calculated calories are on their menu. And the fitness center is located on the same floor! No reason not to maintain your shape or skip the gym.
With happy people around and overflowing food at every corner, it feels like celebration every day.
Also, I think the warm greetings from staff also added to this amazing vibe. I’m so glad we went for Carnival. In case you ask, we booked it at Priceline.com. They have good deals, we had many options and most of them are within our budget. I called them to verify our booking, and their customer service is fantastic. Didn’t have to wait for them to connect me to a representative, which was cool for me since I don’t have all the time in the world. I was hesitant at first because of some negative reviews from other customers, but since it’s cheap, I didn’t really expect much. I booked our flight there also, and guess what, even our shore excursions! It’s one big leap of faith for us since it’s the first time that we used their website. But I’m glad we did! It saved us a lot of money in the process.
So there. I think the rest of our cruise trip should be in another post. But for our breakfast fix, Carnival Victory offered us great food, breathtaking view, and one of a kind experience! ‘Til next time!
1. Don't waste time
One major reason you don't have enough time to explore is you don't know where to go, and when you finally figure out where to go, you're lost in the middle of the city because GPS is messing with your strolling. What to do? Bring a map! This is one of the oldest tricks in the world of traveling. Just because Google Maps and Waze are available doesn't mean these apps are your only options. Maps don't run out of battery, and don't tell me it's not instagrammable because they're hella cool. I found this Riverwalk Map online, and it's very useful!
2. Invest in lodging
Location is everything. During peak season, finding the perfect parking slot can be dreadful, but if your hotel is just a walk away from the places you want to go, you're already hitting the birds with one stone! Saves you gas, no hassle, and a lot more enjoyable. Don't miss the walking crowd. If you're lucky enough, you'll be able to listen to serenading musicians near the river, free of charge! We went to Westin Hotel and we're more than impressed. Elegant inside, and the welcoming crew is very helpful. And what's more inviting than a soft bed waiting for you after a tiring but fun stroll?
3. Save your greens
Why buy the whole crop when you can get the same one on a cheaper price? Coupons are going to make your savings happy while still enjoying the best picks in town. Read articles from your go-to travel magazines and you can find amazing deals. Search the web for discounts and awesome sales. Most perks are online, so surf all the way. Imagine, just by reading this article, you got a set of coupons! Thank you for the sponsors 🙂 Get some scissors, you guys!
4. Go on tours
You'll never run out of options when choosing what tour is best for your taste. If you want a romantic dinner on a floating boat, you can try cruise tours that are offered by seasoned musicians near the river. If you're more of the outgoing type, I recommend inquiring SegCity Segway Tours. Aside from adding fun history lesson to your San Antonio visit, they assure you of safe service and super slick squad. These rollers are easy to use, and the experience they offer is undeniably one of the most worthy tours you can go on.
5. Close your eyes and don't forget the camera!
While walking under the blanket of lights covering the Riverwalk, watch your pace. It's easy to get carried away with the fast crowd and be one with the flowing river. But take some pauses. Look up and feel the breeze. Watch those little geese and ducks as they wiggle their bodies. Stare at the big trunks of trees guarding the flowing water. If you're attentive enough, you may find a school of tiny fish caught under those floating rides, and if you see them, resist the urge to shoo them away. Some people are also enjoying the quiet. Charge your camera and take pictures! Memories are treasures, and Riverwalk holds the chest.
Hope you find this post helpful! Enjoy your Riverwalk visit! 🙂
1. Biga on the Banks
Great unique restaurant where you can enjoy an exceptional dinner on the balcony overlooking the river! Suggested by a business associate, this is an upscale experience of game meat. Nice wine selection, excellent apps (jerk scallops with grits), grapefruit salad and lamb. Pro tip: Take full advantage of their 4 course dinner with wine pairing.
Every item is prepared with creativity and superb execution. Lovely atmosphere. A great place for a special evening. Food and service were excellent. Portions aren't overwhelming like most restaurants. Wedge salad was crisp and fresh. Scallops are delicious. Beef tenderloin was amazing and the potato gratin was very good. Key lime pie will melt in your mouth! Pro tip: Make reservations, this place isn't very large and fills up quickly.
3. Chama Gaucha Brazilian Steakhouse
This is a typical Brazilian steakhouse in which they come and serve the meat at your table. There is a large salad, cold meats and a variety of cheeses area. Staff are amazing and super friendly. Great atmosphere for business meetings, date or just commemorating a birthday. Pro tip: Don't waste too much plate space on salads since it will fill your belly and you won't have enough space left to try everything.
4. Wildfish Seafood Grill
This is one place where they know their seafood. They cook everything the right way, bringing all the flavors together. The shrimp dishes are cooked to perfection, still crunchy but cooked all the way. The swordfish which can easily be overcooked was done perfectly. The only thing negative thing about this place is the noise. Because it is very popular, it is also a very noisy place to dine. If you want a quiet place to dine, this is not the place. Pro tip: Ask for Chef's selection, and try their Bananas Foster.
5. The River edge's Cafe
If you Go to the old established Hilton Hotel at the Riverwalk, you will find this very special place where you can get excellent cocktails! It's a little bit outside the Center of the City walk, so it is not packed like many other places. Great mexican food, delicious guacamole as starter. The atmosphere is so inviting and a fun place to people watch. Pro tip: Try their Mac and cheese because it's a spot on! Their Chicken and grits, too!
There are many other food places that you can try in SA, but these five are dear to me! Oh wait, don't forget to visit Tower of the Americas! It is quite expensive but the view is just spectacular. Wouldn't trade that for anything, especially when it's dinner with my boyfie. 🙂
Culture is rich in this southern corner of Texas Triangle. I have toured San Antonio more than any other big cities composing Lone Star State because I just can't get enough of this place! It welcomes you with colorful autumn trees and European-inspired architectures, all while meeting a culturally diverse community of warm people. Who wouldn't want long walks under the iconic umbrellas at Riverwalk? Or have a fancy dinner, 750 feet from the ground, in a revolving restaurant at Tower of the Americas? These are just two of my favorites. Here are my top 5 reasons why you should visit San Antonio:
San Antonio's culinary landscape is a haven for foodies who seek great dining experience. The city offers a handful of taste fusions, cocktail bars, and truckside culinary buffet that will introduce you to adventurous cuisine and bold flavors. Whether you fancy Tex-Mex or Greek, they have a tasteful list to keep your gourmand going. Click here for must-try food places.
2. Heritage sites
Just like people, cities have personalities. And honestly, San Antonio has a unique and remarkable trait- it is a blend of traditions that were passed from one generation to another. From Mexicans colonizing the city to Asians and Africans touring around, each culture had touched this place in every historical way. Museum and galleries are endless, performing arts is a treasure, and what more? This city is where the great Alamo can be found. I personally enjoyed the audio tour in this historic landmark; it was comprehensive and informative in all angles.
A full-blast hangout night in San Antonio is like no other. Latin rhythms will make you shake your hips in the middle of Main Plaza, and hypnotize you to rock the dance floor together with other friendly faces in boots and cowboy hats. Music is alive in this place all year round, especially when the sun goes down. If you think the day is over, it's just the start of total jazz fun at Graham Central Station. Don't miss the entertainment scene because whatever your mood is, San Antonio got you covered.
San Antonio is on the edge of Texas Hill County and you know what this means? This means scenic terrains and picturesque rolling streets are just around the corner. Storybook farms and private ranches dot the countryside. You'll be surprised to find antique shops and people speaking German in Fredericksburg. Vineyards will capture your hearts too. Pro tip: Follow the Wine and Wildflower Trail in April or the Texas Wine Month Trail in October to sample some of the award-winning vintages produced by more than 30 regional wineries. Hill Country isn't a hotspot for wine connoisseurs for nothing.
San Antonio's perfect sunny weather is just an icing on the cake for every sports participant and fanatic out there. I am very lucky to catch some hoop action from five-time world champion San Antonio Spurs. Oh boy did I scream each time they score over Cavaliers, such a reliving moment! I'd watch it again in a heartbeat. Race cars are also a hit as Formula 1 brings more racing enthusiasts in the city. Are you into biking and thrill-seeking outdoor adventures? Long trails, adventure parks, and strolling paths are going to overwhelm your adrenaline thirst because everything that you ever want is within miles away from Downtown. This website may come in handy for sports events, if ever you want to hop right on.
Ever been to San Antonio? Share your experiences, too! If you haven't been to this city, it's worth the trip! 🙂
